Family Comes First at Great Lakes Cattle Company

As a family we own and operate Great Lakes Cattle Company. We entered into the cattle business as a hobby but it quickly became our passion. We love raising beef cattle for the many ways it enables us to work together as a family.

We at Great Lakes Cattle Company take pride in providing the highest quality meat

We traveled the country searching for the best breed, quality, and most excellent tasting beef. We settled on Aberdeen Angus beef. We dedicate time to educating ourselves about the newest and most innovative ways to produce the highest quality and best tasting meat for you.

Grass-Fed Beef

Growth in the grass-fed beef movement has risen out of ranchers’ desire to improve the quality of life for their animals, their employees, and the people that eat their meat. In the last twenty years a select group of ranchers have chosen to send their animals out to well-managed pastures to graze on high quality grasses rather than to a commercial feedlot, where they are fattened on grain, soy, by-product foodstuff, supplements, antibiotics, and hormones. These ranchers, and we at the Great Lakes Cattle Company, have embraced the “grass-fed” philosophy and consumers are quickly following suit.

Better Steaks…

Grass-fed and grass-finished beef is from animals that have never eaten anything other than their mother’s milk and grass their entire lives. They are not given hormones or growth-promoted additives and are allowed to grow at a natural pace, living low-stress, healthy lives. (At Great Lakes, we occasionally, at our discretion, for the health of the animal, feed grain. However, at all times the cows have as much grass as they want to eat.)

Sustainable Practices

We raise Aberdeen angus beef cows sustainably. The cattle are supplied with the right food at the right time and we always maintain a grass-based ration. Just like humans, sometimes cows get sick so we use common sense and medicate our beef as needed. Therefore, by choice, our beef is not raised organic.
